Every sword we make is handcrafted individually, allowing us to adjust many of its specifications to suit your preferences.

When placing your order, you can request your preferred:

  • blade length,

  • point of balance (POB),

  • grip length,

  • overall length,

  • and other technical details.

Before production begins, we will review your requirements and contact you to confirm which specifications can be achieved.

Because every sword is made and finished by hand, slight variations in the final dimensions or weight may occur. These small differences are a natural part of traditional craftsmanship and do not affect the sword's quality or performance.

Our goal is always to produce a sword that matches your requested specifications as closely as possible while maintaining proper handling, balance, durability, and historical proportions.

Overview

Inspired by archaeological finds from the Migration Period and the Early Middle Ages, this seax represents one of the most distinctive single-edged weapons used in Northern Europe.

Unlike double-edged swords, the seax features a broad single-edged blade designed primarily for powerful cutting attacks. Compact, practical, and highly effective, it was a versatile weapon carried by warriors across Germanic and Scandinavian cultures.

Rather than being an exact replica of a specific historical find, this seax is a modern interpretation created to preserve the character, proportions, and handling qualities of early medieval single-edged weapons while meeting today's standards for durability, safety, and performance.

Designed for historical reenactment, combat training, and collectors, it combines historical inspiration with the reliability required for regular use.

Historical Inspiration

The seax was used from the Migration Period through the Early Middle Ages, with examples found across regions including Scandinavia, Anglo-Saxon England, and continental Europe.

Depending on the period and region, seaxes ranged from smaller utility blades to large fighting weapons. Their simple and robust construction made them effective tools and weapons, valued for their cutting ability and practicality.

Large seaxes, often associated with warrior culture, could serve as primary weapons alongside swords or as powerful alternatives where a compact and durable blade was preferred.

This seax draws inspiration from historical examples while being adapted for modern reenactment combat. Its proportions and construction reflect the character of early medieval weapons while providing the durability needed for training and controlled fighting.

Construction and Handling

Every sword is handcrafted in our family forge in Poland using traditional techniques combined with modern manufacturing methods.

The blade is carefully balanced to provide responsive handling, good edge alignment, and reliable control during sparring and reenactment combat. The beech wood grip is covered with a double layer of leather, creating a comfortable and secure hold. If preferred, one layer of leather can easily be removed or replaced to achieve a slimmer grip.

Each sword is individually assembled, fitted, and finished by hand before being carefully inspected prior to shipment.

Materials and Heat Treatment

The blade is forged from high-quality 50HF spring steel, selected for its excellent combination of toughness, flexibility, and impact resistance.

Every blade is professionally heat-treated to 48 HRC. After years of testing different steels and hardness levels, we found this combination provides the best balance between durability and flexibility for historical combat.

A properly hardened blade is able to flex under load and return to its original shape without permanent deformation. At the same time, it remains resistant to cracking and breakage during normal reenactment use.
