Inspired by European swords from the 14th and 15th centuries, this longsword represents one of the most iconic and versatile weapons of the Late Middle Ages.

Designed to be used with either one or two hands, the longsword combines reach, power, and precision. Its extended grip provides additional leverage and control, allowing for powerful cutting attacks, accurate thrusts, and a wide range of historical fencing techniques.

Rather than being an exact replica of a specific historical sword, this weapon is a modern interpretation created to preserve the appearance, balance, and handling characteristics of medieval longswords while meeting today's standards for durability, safety, and performance.

Designed for historical reenactment, medieval combat training, HEMA practitioners, and collectors, it offers the dynamic handling and versatility expected from a true hand-and-a-half sword.

 

Historical Inspiration

The longsword became one of the defining weapons of European warfare during the Late Middle Ages, particularly between the 14th and 15th centuries. Its development was closely connected with changes in armor, battlefield tactics, and the evolution of European martial traditions.

The longer blade and extended grip allowed warriors to generate greater cutting power while maintaining excellent control and reach. Unlike earlier medieval swords, longswords offered exceptional versatility, making them effective against both lightly armored opponents and heavily armored fighters when combined with specialized techniques.

Historical longswords varied greatly in their proportions and purpose. Some featured broader blades optimized for powerful cutting, while others had narrower and stiffer blades designed for precise thrusting against plate armor. Many examples were also used in judicial duels and civilian fencing traditions, where skill and technique played a central role.

Inspired by historical examples, this sword combines the characteristic proportions of late medieval longswords with modern requirements for durability and safe reenactment use.

 

Construction and Handling

The extended grip allows this sword to be used comfortably with both one and two hands, providing excellent control over the blade during different techniques.

The longer handle increases leverage, allowing powerful strikes while maintaining a responsive and balanced feel. The blade design provides a combination of cutting ability, flexibility, and control, making it suitable for dynamic fencing and historical combat practice.

Each sword is individually handcrafted, with attention given to weight distribution, point of balance, and overall handling characteristics to create a functional weapon rather than a purely decorative replica.

 

Materials and Heat Treatment

The blade is made from high-quality 50HF spring steel, selected for its excellent balance between toughness, flexibility, and impact resistance.

Each blade is heat-treated to an optimal hardness of 48 HRC, providing the combination of durability and resilience required for historical combat use.

This allows the blade to absorb impacts, resist permanent deformation, and maintain reliable performance during regular training and controlled fighting.
