Before production begins, we will review your requirements and contact you to confirm which specifications can be achieved.

Because every sword is made and finished by hand, slight variations in the final dimensions or weight may occur. These small differences are a natural part of traditional craftsmanship and do not affect the sword's quality or performance.

Overview

Inspired by archaeological finds from the Early Middle Ages, this short seax represents one of the most practical and widespread forms of single-edged blades used throughout Northern Europe.

Compact, versatile, and easy to carry, the short seax served as both a utility tool and a personal weapon. Its single-edged blade was designed for effective cutting while maintaining excellent control and maneuverability.

Rather than being an exact replica of a specific historical find, this seax is a modern interpretation created to preserve the character, proportions, and handling qualities of early medieval blades while meeting today's standards for durability, safety, and performance.

Designed for historical reenactment, combat training, and collectors, it offers a unique alternative to traditional swords while maintaining the practicality and reliability expected from a handcrafted weapon.

Historical Inspiration

Short seaxes were widely used from the Migration Period through the Early Medieval period, appearing among Germanic, Anglo-Saxon, and Scandinavian cultures.

Unlike larger fighting seaxes, shorter versions were often more practical everyday weapons, valued for their versatility and ease of use. They could serve as reliable sidearms, personal defense weapons, and useful tools carried by warriors and civilians alike.

Examples of short seaxes have been discovered throughout Northern and Western Europe, including Scandinavia, England, and continental Europe, demonstrating their widespread role in early medieval material culture.

This short seax is inspired by these historical designs while being adapted for modern reenactment use. Its compact size, robust construction, and balanced handling make it suitable for training, demonstrations, and controlled combat.

Construction and Handling

Every sword is handcrafted in our family forge in Poland using traditional techniques combined with modern manufacturing methods.

The blade is carefully balanced to provide responsive handling, good edge alignment, and reliable control during sparring and reenactment combat. The beech wood grip is covered with a double layer of leather, creating a comfortable and secure hold. If preferred, one layer of leather can easily be removed or replaced to achieve a slimmer grip.

Each sword is individually assembled, fitted, and finished by hand before being carefully inspected prior to shipment.

Materials and Heat Treatment

The blade is forged from high-quality 50HF spring steel, selected for its excellent combination of toughness, flexibility, and impact resistance.

Every blade is professionally heat-treated to 48 HRC. After years of testing different steels and hardness levels, we found this combination provides the best balance between durability and flexibility for historical combat.

A properly hardened blade is able to flex under load and return to its original shape without permanent deformation. At the same time, it remains resistant to cracking and breakage during normal reenactment use.

Its proportions, balance, and construction are designed to reflect historical originals while providing the durability required for modern training and controlled combat.
