Large Pommel Variant

This version features a larger and heavier pommel, resulting in a slightly higher overall weight. The additional weight at the rear of the sword shifts the point of balance closer to the hand, giving the sword a lively feel and excellent control while maintaining historical proportions.

This option is well suited to those who prefer a sword with a more substantial feel and responsive handling.

Lightweight Variant

This version is optimized to reduce overall weight by carefully refining the blade and other components while maintaining strength and durability.

The lower weight makes the sword easier to maneuver and helps reduce fatigue during extended training sessions, making it an excellent choice for regular practice and prolonged use.

Overview

Inspired by archaeological finds from the 9th and 10th centuries, this sword is based on the Petersen Type C, one of the distinctive forms of Viking Age swords. Its characteristic hilt design, elegant proportions, and often richly decorated appearance make it one of the most recognizable early medieval sword types.

Rather than being an exact replica, this sword is a modern interpretation created to preserve the historical appearance, balance, and handling characteristics of Viking Age weapons while meeting modern standards of durability, safety, and performance.

Designed for historical reenactment, combat training, and collectors, it combines the aesthetics of an early medieval sword with the reliability required for regular use.

Historical Inspiration

The Petersen Type C represents one of the early developments of Viking sword design and was used mainly during the 9th and early 10th centuries. It is characterized by a distinctive hilt construction, often featuring a large pommel and carefully shaped guard, reflecting the high level of craftsmanship achieved by Viking Age smiths.

Many Type C swords were prestigious weapons, sometimes decorated with precious metals and intricate patterns, showing that swords were not only practical weapons but also symbols of wealth and status.

Examples of this type have been discovered throughout Scandinavia and areas influenced by Viking expansion, including parts of Western and Eastern Europe.

While inspired by historical originals, this sword has been adapted for modern reenactment combat, combining historical character with the strength and durability required for safe training and controlled fighting.

Construction and Handling

Every sword is handcrafted in our family forge in Poland using traditional techniques combined with modern manufacturing methods.

The blade is carefully balanced to provide responsive handling, good edge alignment, and reliable control during sparring and reenactment combat. The beech wood grip is covered with a double layer of leather, creating a comfortable and secure hold. If preferred, one layer of leather can easily be removed or replaced to achieve a slimmer grip.

Each sword is individually assembled, fitted, and finished by hand before being carefully inspected prior to shipment.

Materials and Heat Treatment

The blade is forged from high-quality 50HF spring steel, selected for its excellent combination of toughness, flexibility, and impact resistance.

Every blade is professionally heat-treated to 48 HRC. After years of testing different steels and hardness levels, we found this combination provides the best balance between durability and flexibility for historical combat.

A properly hardened blade is able to flex under load and return to its original shape without permanent deformation. At the same time, it remains resistant to cracking and breakage during normal reenactment use.
