Because every sword is made and finished by hand, slight variations in the final dimensions or weight may occur. These small differences are a natural part of traditional craftsmanship and do not affect the sword's quality or performance.
Our goal is always to produce a sword that matches your requested specifications as closely as possible while maintaining proper handling, balance, durability, and historical proportions.
Inspired by archaeological finds from the 10th and 11th centuries, this sword is based on the Petersen Type X, one of the most recognizable sword types of the late Viking Age and the early medieval period.
Featuring a broad blade, long fuller, and characteristic semi-circular pommel, the Type X represents the evolution of Viking sword design toward the forms that would later define medieval European swords. Rather than being an exact replica, this sword is a modern interpretation created to preserve the appearance, balance, and handling characteristics of historical weapons while meeting today's standards for durability, safety, and performance.
Designed for historical reenactment, medieval combat training, and collectors, it combines historical character with the reliability required for regular use.
The Petersen Type X sword was widely used from the 10th to the early 11th century and represents one of the most practical and widespread designs of the late Viking Age. Unlike some earlier Viking swords that were often highly decorated and associated with elite warriors, Type X swords are known for their simple, robust, and functional construction.
The defining feature of this type is its characteristic semi-circular pommel, usually made as a single piece, combined with a straight crossguard and a broad cutting blade. This design provided a good balance between power, control, and durability, making it an effective weapon for close combat.
Examples of Petersen Type X swords have been discovered throughout Scandinavia and across regions connected with Viking expansion, including parts of Central and Eastern Europe. Their wide distribution reflects the importance and popularity of this sword design during a period of transition between the Viking Age and the medieval world.
While inspired by historical originals, this sword has been carefully adapted for modern reenactment combat. Its proportions and construction preserve the character of early medieval weapons while providing the durability and performance required for regular training and controlled fighting.
Every sword is handcrafted in our family forge in Poland using traditional techniques combined with modern manufacturing methods.
The blade is carefully balanced to provide responsive handling, good edge alignment, and reliable control during sparring and reenactment combat. The beech wood grip is covered with a double layer of leather, creating a comfortable and secure hold. If preferred, one layer of leather can easily be removed or replaced to achieve a slimmer grip.
Each sword is individually assembled, fitted, and finished by hand before being carefully inspected prior to shipment.
The blade is forged from high-quality 50HF spring steel, selected for its excellent combination of toughness, flexibility, and impact resistance.
Every blade is professionally heat-treated to 48 HRC. After years of testing different steels and hardness levels, we found this combination provides the best balance between durability and flexibility for historical combat.
A properly hardened blade is able to flex under load and return to its original shape without permanent deformation. At the same time, it remains resistant to cracking and breakage during normal reenactment use.
This sword is intended for historical reenactment, medieval combat training, and display.
Its proportions, balance, and construction are designed to reflect historical originals while providing the durability required for modern training and controlled combat.
